Ad said "Nice L345 Kubota tractor with loader, 34hp, 4 wheel drive, ps, 1248 hrs $7500."

Is the price reasonable?
How about the hours?
How long before it needs to be overhauled?
If soon how much it costs?

These machines were manufactured in 1984 & 1985 according to Machinery Link. Here is what their pricing for a 1985 L345DT 4WD is:

Premium $7,078

Good $6,377

Fair $5,669

I would think between $4,000 & $5,000 would be a fair price in my opinion. 1248 hours is not a lot of time for a machine such as this. Be sure to check and verify that the clutch is not sticking or stuck. These tractors must be stored with an approx. 1" thick block of wood under the clutch pedal linkage to prevent clutch sticking. My previous tractor was a Kubota L245 with L1200 FEL and L590 RFM. It was a bit cramped for me but otherwise a very good machine. Be sure to change ALL the fluids and filters if you buy it. Chances are with the exception of the engnine oil; the other fluids & filters have not been changed in years. If this tractor has been reasonably cared for; it should not require an overhaul until the 4,000 to 5,000 hour mark or more. Much less if abused.

What condition are the tires in? Be sure to INSIST that you be able to start the tractor COLD after setting for a minimum of 24 hours. This will give you an idea of conditon of the rings/compression as well as glow plugs. These are REAL cold natured hard starting engines when cold but start very reliably when the glow plugs are properly used. If the owner uses or has used ether to aid starting this tractor or you see a can a ether near by. PASS this deal up and walk away. Good luck!
